games development

52 Games students and 4 staff visited the Euro Gamer Expo 2011, at Earls Court in London. The expo gave us the opportunity to play a range of new games including Battlefield 3, Skyrim, The Old Republic, Forza 4, Batman: Arkham City, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Dark Souls, Ico Collection, Journey, Mass Effect 3, Rage, and Street Fighter X Tekken, as well as experience the new PS Vita. We also had the opportunity to attend developer sessions, including an excellent Naughty Dog session on the forthcoming Unchartered 3, presented by the the voice of Nathan Drake himself, Nolan North, and Unchartered 3 co-lead designer Richard Lemarchand. The expo also featured a careers event for those hoping to work within the games industry, retro gaming and an indie gaming showcase. Click here for more information.

Year 1 group lists

Updated 11/09/11

The updated 4 new groups for year 1 are listed below. Please find which group you are in, then look at the timetable page and identify which days you should attend college, starting next week. If you achieved C or equivalent in Maths and English then you don't need to attend the Functional Skills/GCSE session.

Please come to the Games studio (MF05A&B) for the first lesson on your timetable and I will show you how to get to the other rooms. If you cannot remember where the Games studio is, please wait in reception and I'll come and get you.

New resources and lecturers

Date 05/09/11

Due to our, as expected, high enrolments we have added an additional Games studio. We are now able to provide three custom studios that are exclusively used by the Level 3 Games Design students. As part of this expansion we have also updated our hardware, installed new high spec PCs, and purchased additional software licenses. We have also been fortunate to be able to add Rob, Dave and Zach to our teaching team. Rob and Dave have well over 30 combined years of experience within the games industry and will be teaching across a range of subjects. Zach is an ex-student of the games design course and has joined us as part of his Games Design sandwich degree, and will be teaching animation.
